I called my local Pearle Vision and scheduled an appointment for an eye exam. When I arrived, I noticed four employees sitting around telling jokes and discussing Lamborghinis. One of them handed me a laminated Patient Information form to fill out. Instead of giving patrons a clean paper copy to write on, this place uses and re-uses the same filthy, bacteria-laced laminated form and wipes the information off for each new customer. That should have been a glaring wake-up call that I was dealing with an el-cheapo establishment. Give me a break! How could a place be too stingy to make copies so patients would have a clean form to fill out.
After I finished filling it out, I was informed that the telephone quote for a $79.00 eye exam did not include a glaucoma screening and a digital exam of the back of my eye. If I wanted those tests the total cost would run $129.00.
I was then advised that replacing my progressive lenses would run $389.00. When I asked for anti-glare coating I was told that would be an additional $140.00. WTF! I asked the woman if people routinely walked in and dropped $700 bucks for an eye exam and lenses. It's a good thing I didn't need new frames. God only knows how much more that would have cost. At that juncture, the woman started coming off the price by $20 bucks. Big whoop!
I picked up my purse and left. If I'm going to pay those types of fees I'll get my eyes examined by an opthamologist. Not some optometrist too lazy to attend med school long enough to become an opthamologist. What a total rip-off!
