I called my local Pearle Vision and scheduled an appointment for an eye exam. When I arrived, I noticed four employees sitting around telling jokes and discussing Lamborghinis. One of them handed me a laminated Patient Information form to fill out. Instead of giving patrons a clean paper copy to write on, this place uses and re-uses the same filthy, bacteria-laced laminated form and wipes the information off for each new customer. That should have been a glaring wake-up call that I was dealing with an el-cheapo establishment. Give me a break! How could a place be too stingy to make copies so patients would have a clean form to fill out.

After I finished filling it out, I was informed that the telephone quote for a $79.00 eye exam did not include a glaucoma screening and a digital exam of the back of my eye. If I wanted those tests the total cost would run $129.00.

I was then advised that replacing my progressive lenses would run $389.00. When I asked for anti-glare coating I was told that would be an additional $140.00. WTF! I asked the woman if people routinely walked in and dropped $700 bucks for an eye exam and lenses. It's a good thing I didn't need new frames. God only knows how much more that would have cost. At that juncture, the woman started coming off the price by $20 bucks. Big whoop!

I picked up my purse and left. If I'm going to pay those types of fees I'll get my eyes examined by an opthamologist. Not some optometrist too lazy to attend med school long enough to become an opthamologist. What a total rip-off!

I recently purchase two pairs of glasses from pearle vision. Number one to start with ,lacking customer service, I walk inside the building and no one didnt say hi are you finding everything ok , or do you need any assistance.

Noone came forward , they just sat there in their group huddle and chat away. So I proceded to where the glasses were , there was another customer too and we had to depend on each othet suggestion. Finally after some half an hour we put the glasses down an left. Day two.

Went back again seing I was shopping around for a good price then I say on the door buy one for $200.00 get the second one for free or think it was$250.00. The offer sound great but lo and behold it is just a total rip off.

My two glasses I bought came up to $1000.00 and something with insurance. Without insurance it would be $700,00 and with 30% off I thought I would have gotten one free dispite the fact.

Anyways i WAS going to buy a Groupon for $50 for $200 towards lenses and frames BUt after reading this I will pass. I don't want to walk into a place and feel like I'm being ripped off before I get any service.

I GUESS I FEEL IT IS MY JOB TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR VISIT TO PEARLE VISION. I HAVE WORK FOR THIS COMPANY FOR 8 YEARS AND FOR ANOTHER VISION PLACE FOR 8 YEARS PRIOR TO THAT.

THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN AND OPHTHALMOLOGIST AND OPTOMETRIST. THERE ARE ALSO OPTOMETRIC PHYSICIANS. EACH PLAYS A SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN YOUR EYE HEALTH. OPTOMETRISTS FOCUS MAINLY ON YOUR PRESCRIPTION AND BASIC EYE HEALTH THEY ARE CONSIDERED TO BE ROUTINE EXAMS.

THE OPTOMETRIC PHYSICIAN CAN DO EVERYTHING ELSE EXCEPT "SURGERY". OPHTHALMOLOGISTS ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN PREFORM SURGERY. MOST OPTOMETRIST IF THEY SEE THERE IS A CONCERN WILL REFER YOU TO AN OPHTHALMOLOGIST. IT IS IMPORTANT FOR US TO HAVE ENOUGH INFORMATION TO FILE INSURANCE IF A PATIENT IS GOING TO USE IT.

ALL INSURANCE POLICIES ARE DIFFERENT AND IT IS VERY IMPORTANT WE HAVE THE CARD TO CHECK ELIGIBILITY. I KNOW THIS IS FRUSTRATING BUT EACH STORE DEALS WITH HUNDREDS OF POLICIES AND EACH ONE IS VERY DIFFERENT. AS FOR YOUR EXAM COST, THE UCR FOR AN EYE EXAM IS OUT OF POCKET WITH NO INSURANCE APPROX. 79.00 AT THIS TIME.

NOW WITH THAT BEING SAID, EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL FEE FOR CONTACTS, EACH DESIGN (SPHERICAL, TORIC, BIFOCAL)IS A DIFFERENT CHARGE, NORMALLY, SOME TAKE MORE WORK. SO PLEASE BE SURE TO CALL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY PRIOR TO MAKING YOUR APPT. THEY WILL TELL YOU WHAT CHARGES WILL APPLY TO YOU, JUST MAKE SURE TO TELL THEM IF YOU WEAR CL'S.

I DON'T FEEL THAT YOU ARE IGNORANT DARCY I THINK THERE WAS A BREAKDOWN IN COMMUNICATION. IT IS VERY HARD FOR US ON THE PROVIDER SIDE TO GIVE AND EXACT COST TILL WE KNOW ALL INFORMATION, GLASSES ARE SUCH A CUSTOM MADE PRODUCT. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND NOT ALL PEARLE VISIONS ARE CORPORATE SOME ARE FRANCHISED AND EACH STORE WILL HAVE DIFFERENT POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.

PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO TRY A DIFFERENT STORE OUT YOU MAY FIND IT IS THE BEST PLACE YOU HAVE EVER GONE. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!

Why is it not hard for other place but for Pearl Vision? Worst place ever .

Would never use them again and I will make sure to let everyone know. Should have read the reviews before using them.

Live and learn . Will never happen again

Hi,

I experienced the same kind-a thing. I called a corporate pearle vision store in NJ several times but they will not give me the out of pocket cost required for the eye exam.

No matter how much you try the actual cost of the eye exam, will elude you. They are *** bent in getting you in first

This is what happened for me,

If you call them they will take down all you information including ssn #; after which they will tell you come down for the actual cost.

Which did because I felt the facility was corporate and expected a better service.

Upon going there they handed me the paperwork outright, no talk about price. When I insisted asked about "out of the pocket" costs (since I had insurance).

They told me 10$ (copay) + 20$ (for some retinal checkup) is all that I have to pay.

When I completed the eye-exam they showed me a $206.00 bill; I called the insurance and they told me they will pay 55$. I feel duped.

Inspite of going there personally with the insurance card, they will not call the insurance company, to let you know how much of the

total cost you will be responsible for. However they will give you an impression they will.

There is no way you will get even an rough estimate of how much you have to pay. Get ready for surprises with pearl vision.

I strongly recommend don't even think about Pearle Vision, try BJs or COSTCO or if you are in Central NJ.I have no Idea why Aetna has them as the participating provider.

It's too bad you don't know a thing regarding the difference between Optometrist and Opthamologist. More often than not opthamologists do not want to examine your eyes for glasses....,they get into the field because they want to do SURGERY!!

That's why they go to medical school. Optometrist spend 4 years in college and 4 years in Optometry School. Go educate yourself on the differences BEFORE you open your mouth.

You don't konw what you are talking about. Pick up your purse and keep walking and stop talking.
